Wintek32 Install notes:

Do you remember when all PC's ran DOS and an installation program
was a batch file which copied some files from a floppy? I do and
sometimes I wish things were still that simple. Wintek32 v2.0 is
designed to recapture the spirit of an earlier age, without breaking
windows' installation rules too much. Originally I produced a setup
program for it (using Installshield) but even zipped up, the setup
disk was 600kB - for a program which runs to 78kB for the exe and 300kB
for the help.

Anyway, the program is now 'self installing'. It works like this:

Copy the contents of the distribution files to a directory of your choice.
The distribution consists of four files:

Wintek32.exe (the executable)
Wintek32.hlp (the help file)
Wintek32.cnt (the help contents)
Readme.txt (this file)

That's the installation done. If you want shortcuts, on the start menu or
otherwise, you will have to create them yourself. You will also have to
delete them if you uninstall the program - that's entirely your business.

When you run Wintek32 for the first time, it will check to see if there
is an uninstall program registered for itself. If not, then it will assume
it has not been installed and it will install itself by inserting a few
keys in the registry, including an 'Uninstall' entry which will register
itself as its own uninstall program. Installation is then complete.

If you want to uninstall it, you will use the 'Add/Remove Programs'
applet in the control panel and select 'Wintek32 Scope interface program'
Wintek32 will then be executed with a command line parameter of
'~uninstall'. If you confirm that you want to proceed with deletion, the
registry will be cleaned up and the installed files (+ the 'temporary'
help files Wintek32.gid and Wintek32.fts) will be deleted. As Wintek32.exe
is running in order to achieve this, it cannot be deleted right away but
will be removed the next time the system is restarted.

Note:
If you execute the program from another location after you have installed
it (for example if you move the directory in which you installed it) this
will be detected the next time the program is run, and you will be asked
if you want to update uninstall information in the registry.

You cannot uninstall the program while it is running.

I hope you enjoy the program and find it useful
